Frequently Asked Questions

Welcome to my FAQ page. Here you will find some questions that often come up when hiring a therapist. If you do not see your question listed here, please reach out for further information.

Do you provide a free consultation?

Yes, I offer a free 15-minute consultation to learn about you, your child, and the issues you are facing. This is your opportunity to ask me questions, check my availability, and see if we are a good fit. If I am unable to help you, I would be happy to provide you with referrals in the community.

How much do you charge, and how long is each session?

My fees range between $175 and $200 per session. Each session lasts approximately 50 minutes.

Do you take insurance?

No, I do not accept insurance. Here’s why:

  • It affects confidentiality in your treatment. Insurance companies require me to provide documentation, including your treatment notes, to pay for your treatment. So, I cannot guarantee your private information will remain private.
  • With insurance, I am required to diagnose you, whether you qualify for a diagnosis or not. Not everyone wants to be labeled with a diagnosis that can negatively impact people throughout their lives.
  • When using insurance, I am required to treat my clients under the rules and procedures set forth by the insurance companies. This prevents me from tailoring a personalized approach for each client.

For these reasons, I do not deal directly with insurance companies. However, I would be happy to provide you with a superbill to submit to your insurance for out-of-network reimbursement. Please note that if I provide you with a superbill, I am required to assign you a diagnosis.

Do you provide a Good Faith Estimate of my total financial responsibility?

Yes. If you are uninsured or pay for health care bills yourself, health care providers are legally required to give you an estimate of expected charges before you get an item or service. This is called a “Good Faith Estimate.” As a client in my practice, your Good Faith Estimate is available to you and can be requested at all times. It should include expected charges for the primary item or service you’re getting, and any other items or services that are provided as part of the same scheduled experience. Your Good Faith Estimate will be given to you in writing prior to your first visit.

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees. Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises.

How often will my child (or I) be coming to therapy?

Each client is different, with different needs and goals. I recommend we start meeting weekly to begin getting to know each other and building a relationship. Once progress is made, I am happy to discuss the possibility of reducing the frequency of our sessions.

Do you have a cancellation policy?

I require at least 24 hours’ notice prior to cancelling any appointment. In the event of a no show or a cancellation of less than 24 hours, I charge 50% of my full session fee on the first occurrence and the full fee thereafter. If possible, I will try to reschedule you to a later time during the week, but I cannot guarantee this.

Do you offer telehealth?

Yes, I offer telehealth services. I use a secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform to meet with my clients. Please note that not every client and/or situation is appropriate for telehealth. We will discuss this together and determine the best manner of helping you and your child.

Do you have after-school and evening availability?

Yes, I understand the difficulty in scheduling therapy during the daytime when school and other activities might get in the way. My office hours are as follows:
  • Monday 10-8
  • Tuesday 10-6
  • Wednesday 10-8
  • Thursday 10-6

How do I schedule a consultation?

E-mail me at robin@robinhorvitzcounseling.com or call me at 954-287-4221. I will do my best to get back to you within 24 hours after you reach out.
